Yesterday was certainly a "Teaser!" I'd like to have broken some major news for you about Toys R Us today, but couldn't just yet. The news I want to share was confirmed by my sources today. We are waiting to be sure we don't step on any corporate toes before sharing it with you. I can only tell you it appears to be big news!

The Comic-Con news I will have for you should be on track for the middle of next week, and you are going to love it! Just waiting on China. So, don't expect anything else until I post what should wow you then!

Finally, I'm waiting on an OK to share the news I have for you about the Kmart Collectors Days. This is cool news, but the least earth quaking of the three. Matter of fact, I hope to have it for you tomorrow. One person needs to simply give a thumbs up. You would think they'd know how much buzz we bloggers give them?!

Disney Pixar Cars - The Not Gonna Do It Gask-its Toys R Us Promo

We've been on many a goose chase. The infamous Walmart Pallet Drop in October, then November, then December! Now, people have been looking for a Gask-its promotion at Toys R Us that hasn't materialized. Why? Well, sit back and I'll tell you...

Sidewall Shine was a winner, but TRU reportedly has 9000
N2O Cola Cars parked in their warehouse waiting for a home!

I heard "Unofficially" from my undercover janitors deep inside the offices of Mattel, that Toys R Us still has 9000 N2O Colas left from the most recent 5 for 1 promotion! Additionally, I heard that fulfillment was a mess. Remember how many of you received Hot Wheels cars by mistake? Thus, the promotion was a bust! A disappointment! A fail-you-r to say the least!! With this in mind, any idea of doing another promotion with Gask-its is off the table.

So, I wouldn't expect to see any new 5 for 1 promotions for a while. I know a number of people were not happy to see that Mattel would be releasing an N2O Launcher. Can't say I disagree, but I can say that these promo cars were never marketed as "Exclusive" in any way.

You can count on me to bring you any news as it breaks.

I hope to bring you something great this week! Waiting on China to see if I can. Don't miss it! Subscribe to Alternator Valley!

Disney Pixar Cars - Mater 1:24th Disney Store vs. Mater 1:24th MattyCollector

If you didn't realize it, Mattel previously released a Lightning McQueen and Mater in the 1:24th Scale. They were originally released a few years ago at the Disney Store and locations such as The World of Disney at the theme parks. They sold for $19.99 and were only available for a short time. Once again, Alternator Valley reader Tim, has contributed some fine pictures of his Mater in 1:24th Scale from the Disney Store for us to compare.

Mater (Disney Store) looks pretty good for $19.99

Mater (Matty) reveals treaded tires, more detail and deco

Mater's (Disney Store) detail looks well done

This New Mater (Matty) is far more detailed

It is interesting to take a side by side look! The NEW Mater has much more deco and detail. Martin Arriola from Mattel's design team told me this previous Mater can't compare to this new Mater. I hope not, as the NEW Mater will run you $50.00 instead of $19.00! Again, Mater is expected to come with a dust cover made of chipboard with full color printing, and will be shipped in a corrugated shipper. There's no release info. We all know how "reliable" MattyCollector.com has been. Only time will reveal what Matty has in his big ole head!

Disney Pixar Cars - Mater The Greater Barney Stormin' and Sidewall Shine Hauler Preview

Good things are always turning up here at Alternator Valley. You never know what tomorrow will bring! Today my friends, I have another Special Preview for you! You get to see the First pictures of Barney Stormin' all decked out in Red, White and Blue from "Mater The Greater!" You also get to see the Sidewall Shine Hauler in all his glory! So, let's get to the photos...

Barney looks cool in his Red, White and Blue!

Barney Stormin' to Control Tower, I'm ready for Take Off!

Barney can do Barrel Rolls with the Greatest of Ease!

I previewed a number of superb "Mater The Greater" prototypes a week or so ago. Barney is just the latest in the "Mater The Greater" group, and looks as incredible as the others! He'll be in the 1:55th Scale and likely fly into the stores this fall.

Sidewall Shine parks with his Hauler to meet his fans!

That Big Ole tire sure shines in your eyes!

The Sidewall Shine Hauler is expected to be released on October 1, 2009. As you know, this could change and I will update you if this occurs. For those of you who have superb vision, Sidewall Shine's eyes are the new lenticular design. They were photoshopped to make them look normal for the photo above. Pretty sweet stuff today!

Disney Pixar Cars - John Lasseter Series Case and Car 1:55th Preview

I told you I'd have some great photos for you today, and thanks to Martin, you get to preview the John Lasseter Signature Series Car and Case in the 1:55th scale! This very well may be the final design, but some additional changes may be done before it goes to production. So, here it is for your viewing pleasure...

Lightning sits on raised posts like a beauty on a pedestal!

A view from the top on a sunny day!

Kinda looks like the Sheriff on the lift at Doc's!

The clear bottom is made to look at Lightning's chassis!

Acrylic can make a simple thing look quite elegant!

The Cars logo, Character Name & John Lasseter's signature!

  • Remember, only the 1:55th Cars will come in this type of case. Here's a unique piece of info for you real collectors...both the body is die cast and the chassis is die cast, terming this a die cast, die cast. So, expect this baby to be heavy!
  • This is the FIRST time the chassis of a car will be painted in such detail, thus the clear case for you to view the fine workmanship. Hot Wheels has never even done this!
  • Also, don't forget the cool Soft Shore PVC Real Rubber-Like Tires with Tread Pattern. Pixar wanted Lightning on the treaded pattern for authenticity. Realize that he was only on slicks in two races, which accounted for a very short time on film. The fact is, most of Lightning's time spent on camera was during the time he was in Radiator Springs wearing treaded tires.
  • Finally, this case is stackable, and you may eventually see this type of case for the 1:24th size. I've been told it will all depend on how well the 1:24th's sell.
This FIRST piece is expected to be released on MattyCollector.com on April 15, 2009. It is expected to retail for $20.00 and be a Limited Edition of 10,000. It will be available to our International Friends/Collectors! It will come to you in a white cardboard shipper and make your day when you open it!

Subscribe to Alternator Valley and you will be an expert collector!

Disney Pixar Cars - Upcoming Cars Pin Sets

I know a lot of you collect pins in addition to Cars die cast toys. I thought I'd let you know about a few Cars pin sets that may interest you. You can supposedly order both sets I'm going to show you. I personally like the Mystery Tin Set.

You get four pins...a Lightning McQueen, a Mater, a Chick Hicks, and a pin with Guido and Luigi. You also get a lanyard and the set comes packed in a plastic pouch. Disney Pixar Cars - MattyCollector.com March 17th Preview! Lightning McQueen 1:24th Plussed

In a little over five weeks, MattyCollector.com will be dusted off, the power will be turned on, and you should be able to buy the first release since Lightning Storm McQueen! Originally, the New Releases were going to be called the "Plussed" line. Now, the working name is, "The John Lasseter Signature Series." This has yet to be confirmed and greenlit. Today, I'm happy to give you a Special Preview of the First in this New Series...Lightning McQueen in 1:24th Scale!

The detail is going be unparalleled! Lightning in the 1:24th
Scale
will be approximately 9 inches in length. He will be attached to a molded black base that will look like asphalt.

The undercarriage will show more detail,
but look at the tread on the real rubber tires!

Here's where you can really appreciate the detail!
Look at the camera lens on the left tail light.

A close look at the real rubber tires shows you a rim pin
striped in yellow, painted lug nuts, and even the brand label!
Do you like the painted exhaust pipes done in Silver?

To reiterate and further inform you...
  1. The expected release date is March 17, 2009 on MattyCollector.com
  2. There will be a Matty exclusive with the Real Rubber Tires that is expected to sell for $45.00
  3. There will be a Direct Retailer exclusive with Plastic Tires that is expected to sell for $40.00. Target and Direct Sellers are the other expected distribution
  4. I've been told the Edition Sizes are expected to be 5000 on MattyCollector.com and 5000 through Direct Retailers
  5. Again, Lightning will ONLY be attached to a black molded base made to look like asphalt. Finally, he will NOT come with a clear cover, and come in a shipper.

Disney Pixar Cars - Red Line Club Renewals & New Members

Ever have a date in your mind that you had to do something and realize it was a week earlier? That just happened to me. I had it in my mind that I needed to renew my Red Line Club membership on January 27th, when in fact, I should have done it on January 20th. As Homer Simpson says, "Doh!"

I renewed tonight and ended up with the Military Bus from the third tier. The fourth and final tier is the Taxi Bus. The cost of membership is $24.99 plus $6.95 Shipping and Processing.

I figured I'd remind those of you who are current Red Line Club members that your priority window ends tomorrow. All of you who want to join this year in case a Disney Pixar Cars release happens will have your opportunity starting on Tuesday the 27th. From what I can tell, if you care to sign up you better not wait. There are a limited number of memberships and they are already into the third tier of four. Visit this link Hot Wheels Collectors to learn more and sign up.

Will there be a Disney Pixar Cars exclusive Red Line Club release? We don't know at this time. Anything is possible. The expectation is that MattyCollector.com will be the venue for Disney Pixar Cars exclusive releases. We have seen Matty simply gather dust since the site debuted at Comic-Con last year. I'd rather have my Red Line Club membership in case a Cars release materializes, instead of missing out.

Coming Tomorrow: Photos of...well, you'll have to wait to see!

Disney Pixar Cars - Matty Collector Display Case Could Debut at Comic-Con

I was told today, that this Cars Display Case may possibly debut at Comic-Con in July! It may have some mock-ups/prototypes of the three (3) Exclusive Cars with it. Nothing is written in stone, but I was told from the top, it may be on display for those attending to see in person. And believe me, it will certainly be much more impressive when you see it in the flesh!

I'd post a larger picture if I could, but Blogger doesn't technically allow me to. Scroll down the page a bit to read the Exclusive story about this Display Case! Also, Vote in my Poll if you haven't already done so.

Disney Pixar Cars - MattyCollector.com Exclusive Display Case Special Sneak Peak

When I went to Comic-con last year, the first thing I discussed with the people at Mattel was how they needed to produce an "Official" Cars Display Case. We talked about it at length, and the reality of one being made and available is drawing ever nearer! Here, as an Exclusive Alternator Valley "Special Sneak Peak," is a Preview of the Cars Display Case that would be a MattyCollector.com Exclusive!

Let me tell you about it in detail...

  1. There will hopefully be three (3) Exclusive Chase/Special Character Cars that will come with this case. I've suggested they be numbered and truly EXCLUSIVE.
  2. It will be made to accommodate the Cars 1:55th scale die cast toys.
  3. It measures 32 inches wide, by 24 inches tall, by 3 inches deep. It will hold approximately 54 full sized Cars, or two small Cars characters in one compartment. The capacity may be increased to approximately 75 to 80 Cars by paring up your pittys and Movie Moments characters such as Flick & Flea.
  4. Each compartment measures 5 inches wide by 3 inches tall. I measured Red to be sure he'd fit, and he has plenty of room. Even small Al Oft will fit! The only character that won't fit will be Barney Stormin'. You'll just have to sit him on top with some Velcro.
  5. The Cars Logo may be frosted, silk-screened or a clear label on the back wall of the case. Frosting seems to be out from what I've been told, I suggested silk-screening at the minimum, I don't feel a label is classy enough.
  6. The Full Color Graphic at the top will actually be above the compartments and be attached to the top of the case. The cool thing is it will be printed on a rigid material and will be able to be interchanged.
  7. The case will be made of plexi, it will have a hanging wire and come with the hardware to hang it, it will be hinged at the top and open upward, and can also be displayed by simply standing it up.
  8. The Edition Size has not been determined, but the number of 750 has been discussed. I have urged them to increase the Edition Size to 2000.
  9. A price of $300 to $400 has been discussed. I told them that the three (3) Exclusive Cars would be well worth $300 alone!
  10. It will be available in the United States and INTERNATIONALLY!
So, if you have yet to vote in one of my polls, I urge you to do so this time! The poll is a two (2) part question and needs your two (2) answers. First, indicate the Maximum you'd pay for an "Official" Cars Display Case as presented, and Second, indicate how many you'd like to purchase if allowed.

Also, I encourage you to add your Comments to this article. Your input may very well determine how the final product turns out!

Disney Pixar Cars - Maters Tall Tales "Tokyo Drift"

What do you get when you cross "The Fast And The Furious, Tokyo Drift," with "Mater's Tall Tales?" The fourth Cars Toons short, "Tokyo Drift!" In the next "Interstitial," Mater goes to Japan and becomes a great "Drifter!" I was told it is absolutely fantastic, and that the die cast toys will be equally superb!

I've already been informed that the sculpts for Mater the Fire Engine are terrific! How cool will Mater as Evil Knievel be?!! How about El Materdor?!! These all promise to be some of the best designs to be released next year!

I've yet to have the opportunity to see any of "Mater's Tall Tales." They all look to maintain the Pixar standard of quality and story! I haven't heard how many of the "Interstitials" will be done, but can't wait for them to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray! As soon as I get pics of anything, I'll be sure to post them!

Disney Pixar Cars - Will Matty's "Plussed" Cars Be Something You'll Want?

Next year MattyCollector.com will finally release their next item on March 17, 2009. I revealed to you that it would be a 1:24th Scale Lightning McQueen "Plussed" with rubber tires, painted lug nuts, pin striping, etc. coming to you in a clear display case similar to the Sidewall Shine case. I've given some thought about this release, which I've been told will sell for $40.00 to $50.00. I'm not sure this will be a home run for Mattel, and I'll tell you why.

  • First off, it is another Lightning McQueen. I'm frankly sick of Lightning McQueen. How about you?
  • Second, it sets you off on collecting an entirely new sized line. It is enough to try to stay up with collecting the 1:55th Scale "Mainline!"
  • Third, it ain't cheap! Paying $50.00 for a larger over done character because of added detail and a case, isn't going to blow up my skirt!
  • Finally, it is a high edition size in my opinion. An edition of 10,000 of a character that has been done over, and over, is just not appealing to a collector.
Then, a month later on April 15, 2009, they are going to follow up this release with the SAME EXACT THING, just smaller in the 1:55th Scale! This one will sell for $20.00 to $25.00. Does this excite YOU?!! It doesn't do a damn thing for me!!

I've said they should come out with a collector's version of Darth Mater! Deliver a UNIQUE version of a character such as Darth Mater and you can sell 10,000 of them!
The thought of adding the same characters to my collection because of being "Plussed," simply doesn't do much for me. What do you think?

Disney botched this up royally over the years with pin trading. They kept releasing too many boring, over done, lame designs! How many damn Stitch on a surfboard pins do you think we want?! Not as many as they kept putting out! A very bad marketing strategy because they bored us! Yet, when they put out something ORIGINAL such as Stitch as a Gargoyle for the Haunted Mansion Happy Haunts event, they enticed me and many others to upgrade to a higher priced package because we wanted that pin!! That was smart marketing!! If it was another over done design, their strategy would have failed!

Why did Lightning Storm McQueen sell out? Because it was ORIGINAL! Why do people want the Blu-Ray Rangsberg McQueen? Because it is ORIGINAL! Why do collectors want the Red Rangsberg McQueen? Because it is EXTREMELY RARE! So, if you put out a common character, in a high quantity, at a high price, what do you think people will do?! Probably say whoopee and not give a damn!

I've been a "Collector" nearly my entire life, and what infuriates me about companies like Disney and Mattel is that they do these stupid things because of being out of touch with the collectors, being egotistical know-it-alls, foolish bureaucrats, and simply being lazy! The way to make millions is very simple, "Just listen to the collectors!"

Disney Pixar Cars - MattyCollector.com Will Offer A Cars Collector's Display Case

I know that a lot of you would love to own a Display Case like this one auctioned off for the Children Affected By Aids Foundation! I certainly tried to find out how to get one and was disappointed I couldn't.

Well, you're going to get your chance to get one that will be made specially for
MattyCollector.com! I don't have a release date yet, but I can tell you some tantalizing things...The case will hold a large number of Cars in the 1:55th Scale size. Since it is still in development I can't give you an exact capacity, but can say somewhere in the range of 50 to 60. It is expected to be made mostly out of plexi, as far as the finer aesthetic details, it is too soon to tell you. It is expected to sell for $300.00. Here's the incredible thing, it is expected to come with three EXCLUSIVE chase Cars! Heck! I'd drive over glass to git me sum o them! What will those three Cars will be? I don't know at this point. I can simply say that this will kick butt!

You can count on me to report on any further developments here at Alternator Valley! MattyCollector.com has been like a goofy unreliable teen, but here's hoping next year will see a more mature Matty who'll deliver some great things!

Disney Pixar Cars - Mattycollector.com To Brush Off The Dust On St. Patrick's Day '09

MattyCollector.com was launched back in July at Comic-Con 2008. Lightning Storm McQueen was the first offering and sold out immediately. I was told that the next Cars item would likely be released in October of 2008. Ok, it is now the middle of November, and in four hours I'll be off to see the latest Bond film, "Quantum of Solace!" I was told at that same Comic-Con, that the newest Bond flick would be out in November and Sony delivered! So, many, many, many collectors are not pleased that MattyCollector.com has not 1.) Delivered a New Cars item for us all to plop our dough down on! 2.) Not delivered on the promised Newsletter! 3.) Has literally had nothing in the form of updates to inform us about anything! As I read somewhere, someone would like to punch Matty in his big head! The visual alone is enough to make you chuckle!

Finally, I've got some News for you all, but it is tempered by the fact that we might as well wait for the proverbial "Slow Boat From China" before MattyCollector.com will be populated with the next release. This is good stuff! And, don't let anyone ever tell you that we bloggers aren't important disseminators of News! In many cases, we make the News! So, do you want the lowdown? Say paaalease? Who's your daddy? Ok, just gotta be a tease don't I? Here's what I found out for now...

It won't be until next year before we see New Cars items appear on MattyCollector.com. On March 17, 2009 we should expect to see the first "Plussed" Lightning McQueen done in 1:24th Scale! Back in 2006 there were two 1:24th Scale releases. One of Mater, and one of Lightning, both done in die cast. I actually saw them at the World of Disney Store, but passed on them. The NEW Plussed releases will be done in a super detailed manner! Details like painted lug nuts, detailed pin strips and rubber tires will be elements you'll see! Lightning will come in a cool display case which will allow you to see the bottom of the Car as well! This first release is expected to be a Limited Edition of 10,000. Five thousand will be exclusively released on MattyCollector.com, while the remaining five thousand will be exclusive to Toys R Us! No, I don't have a price for you yet. That wasn't able to be told to me at this point. When I learn the price, you can be certain I'll let you know.

On April 15, 2009 you can feel better after paying your taxes by spending your refund on the first 1:55th Scale "Plussed" Lightning McQueen. Same great detailing will be done...Rubber tires, painted window frames, pin stripes, and the cool display case! This release will be different in that the expected Limited Edition of 10,000 will ONLY be released on MattyCollector.com. Again, I don't have a price for you at this point. What is expected to happen after these initial releases is that we should see a NEW release about every six weeks thereafter. I have more Matty news, but will wait until tomorrow so you have to come back and visit moi!!

Disney Pixar Cars - Darth Mater Selling Price A Disappointment!

I talked to a good friend from Mattel this morning and was told that Darth Mater sold for a paltry $10,000! I am certainly shocked, amazed and disappointed! This was one of the most unique pieces I've ever seen. Where were the heavy hitters? Why didn't Lucas or Lasseter bid on it?

If you were fortunate enough to see Darth in person like I did, you'd have been amazed at the quality, workmanship, and creativity behind the one-of-a-kind collectible! Hell, if I had ten grand, I would have gladly paid it to get Darth Mater! I can tell you this much...Collectors want a small version of him. I've said that Mattel should absolutely make a version for MattyCollector.com within the next year! If they don't, they'll miss the boat. Collectors love this costumed version of Mater.

I feel the amount he sold for could almost be deemed insulting. It had to be a shock to the Children Affected by Aids Foundation as well. They were really counting on these bids to help the organization financially. Well, as the saying goes, "Wait until next year!"
