I know a lot of you collect pins in addition to Cars die cast toys. I thought I'd let you know about a few Cars pin sets that may interest you. You can supposedly order both sets I'm going to show you. I personally like the Mystery Tin Set.
The first set is being released on March 24, 2009 at Disney World. It is an Open Edition Starter Set and will retail for $24.95. You get four pins...a Lightning McQueen, a Mater, a Chick Hicks, and a pin with Guido and Luigi. You also get a lanyard and the set comes packed in a plastic pouch. You can check it out at this link Cars Pin Set
The second set will be released on March 27, 2009 at Disneyland. It will be a Limited Edition Set of 2000. This set will contain ten pins...a Sheriff, a Sally, a Ramone, a Luigi, a Guido, a Mack, a Lightning McQueen, a Mater, a Sarge and a Doc. They come packed in a metal tin, and you get four (4) randomly packed pins in each tin. Each tin will cost $32.00. You can check out this set at this link Cars Mystery Tin Set
Hopefully, I'll have some pics of some upcoming releases for you you this week!

Disney Pixar Cars - Will Matty's "Plussed" Cars Be Something You'll Want?
Next year MattyCollector.com will finally release their next item on March 17, 2009. I revealed to you that it would be a 1:24th Scale Lightning McQueen "Plussed" with rubber tires, painted lug nuts, pin striping, etc. coming to you in a clear display case similar to the Sidewall Shine case. I've given some thought about this release, which I've been told will sell for $40.00 to $50.00. I'm not sure this will be a home run for Mattel, and I'll tell you why.
- First off, it is another Lightning McQueen. I'm frankly sick of Lightning McQueen. How about you?
- Second, it sets you off on collecting an entirely new sized line. It is enough to try to stay up with collecting the 1:55th Scale "Mainline!"
- Third, it ain't cheap! Paying $50.00 for a larger over done character because of added detail and a case, isn't going to blow up my skirt!
- Finally, it is a high edition size in my opinion. An edition of 10,000 of a character that has been done over, and over, is just not appealing to a collector.
I've said they should come out with a collector's version of Darth Mater! Deliver a UNIQUE version of a character such as Darth Mater and you can sell 10,000 of them! The thought of adding the same characters to my collection because of being "Plussed," simply doesn't do much for me. What do you think?

Disney botched this up royally over the years with pin trading. They kept releasing too many boring, over done, lame designs! How many damn Stitch on a surfboard pins do you think we want?! Not as many as they kept putting out! A very bad marketing strategy because they bored us! Yet, when they put out something ORIGINAL such as Stitch as a Gargoyle for the Haunted Mansion Happy Haunts event, they enticed me and many others to upgrade to a higher priced package because we wanted that pin!! That was smart marketing!! If it was another over done design, their strategy would have failed! Why did Lightning Storm McQueen sell out? Because it was ORIGINAL! Why do people want the Blu-Ray Rangsberg McQueen? Because it is ORIGINAL! Why do collectors want the Red Rangsberg McQueen? Because it is EXTREMELY RARE! So, if you put out a common character, in a high quantity, at a high price, what do you think people will do?! Probably say whoopee and not give a damn!
I've been a "Collector" nearly my entire life, and what infuriates me about companies like Disney and Mattel is that they do these stupid things because of being out of touch with the collectors, being egotistical know-it-alls, foolish bureaucrats, and simply being lazy! The way to make millions is very simple, "Just listen to the collectors!"

Disney's Pin Celebration Unveils New Cars Pin Bag
I just attended the Annual Disney Pin Celebration at Epcot. Since things have been slow, I know many of you also collect Disney pins and would be interested in this news. I saw that Disney will be releasing a New Pin Bag with Cars characters Lightning McQueen and Mater on the cover.
Disney will also be releasing a starter set with four pins and a lanyard. They'll be doing something different with the New starter set. Instead of just two different pin designs, there will be four different pins. I wasn't told what they'll be, or when they will be released. As with past starter sets, it will be an open edition set.
You rarely see Disney Pixar Cars pins and accessories. These items should start appearing in the next few months.

Mater & Lightning Take Shop with Doc
For those of you who also collect Disney Pins...here's a rare Cars release as part of the Annual Epcot Event running from September 5-7, 2008! The theme this year is "Pin Trading University!" I previewed the pins at the Animal Kingdom event in April and they are some of the best in years. Just as in high school, Mater and Lightning take shop class as one of their electives being taught by Doc. It is a Limited Edition of 750, and is a pin on pin design that is supposed to have sculpted elements. That means Free-D rubber typically. So, their tires my have a 3-D effect. It will be an average sized pin measuring approximately 1.5 inches tall by 1.85 inches wide. It will retail for $12.95, and can ONLY be obtained if you are a paid attendee, and have been awarded it through an RSP (Random Selection Process). There's still time to register if you're interested at this link Pin Trading University Event with admission costing $115/person. Theme park admission is required and not included.
I've personally attended every Pin Celebration at Epcot since the start. The event has been everything from a mess to great! Beyond Disney's organization of the event, you will make the event an ultimate success based on how you look at things. If you go there and are sociable, take in the event activities, experience all that Epcot has to offer, eat good food and relax, then you'll go away happy! If you just go there and sit on your butt, and take little to no initiative, then you'll likely go home unhappy. I've been amazed at how little people enjoy the things Epcot has to offer. Many just sit at a table all day and try to trade pins. But, as the saying goes, "To each, his own."
